Bangladesh’s leading mobile operator Robi, said that 60.5% of its subscribers have adopted 4G technology. Among its 5.8 crore total subscribers, approximately 3.5 crore are now 4G users, cementing Robi’s position as the industry leader in 4G adoption, the company said in a recent statement.
With an impressive 98.59% 4G population coverage facilitated by over 16,600 4G sites, Robi attributes its rapid 4G expansion to an outstanding 70.5% penetration rate of 4G-capable devices among its user base.
Moreover, data usage is notably high, with 77% of Robi’s total subscribers utilizing data services, and an intriguing 80% of these users accessing the internet through the advanced 4G network.
4G refers to the fourth generation of mobile telecommunications technology and represents a set of standards and technologies designed to provide faster and more reliable wireless communication for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, and other connected devices. 4G networks are designed to deliver significantly faster data transfer speeds compared to previous generations. This enables quicker downloads, smoother streaming, and improved overall performance.
Shahed Alam, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer, underscores Robi’s commitment to technological advancement, stating, “Robi’s 4G has significantly strengthened through the utilization of the 2600 MHz spectrum. Voice over LTE (VoLTE) users now experience superior voice quality on our robust 4G network. Our sustained investment and focused strategy have propelled us to a commanding position in the 4G business.”
In a historic achievement, Robi Axiata became Bangladesh’s pioneer mobile operator to launch 4G telecommunications services across all 64 districts in 2018, marking this milestone on the inaugural day of 4G’s commercial launch.
